NDPP Interviews Proceed Despite Complaint Against Panellist

A sitting of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) interviews heard on Thursday that a formal complaint has been lodged against one of the panellists involved in the selection process.

The panel is in its second day of interviews, during which three shortlisted candidates are appearing before the advisory committee. Current National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shamila Batohi’s term comes to an end in January.

Opening the day’s proceedings, Minister of Justice Mmamoloko Kubayi read out a statement from the Amalgamated Lawyers Association, which raised concerns about the candidacy of Nkosana Mvundlela, president of the Black Lawyers Association.

Kubayi, however, dismissed the association’s statement, much like she did with the Democratic Alliance’s attempt to interdict the process on Wednesday.

Complaint Targets Black Lawyers Association President

The complaint against Mvundlela was flagged just as the panel resumed its work.

The association’s statement questioned his involvement, but Kubayi made it clear that the interview process would not be derailed.

Political Tensions Fail to Halt NDPP Selection Process

Despite legal threats and objections, Kubayi reaffirmed the panel’s commitment to completing the interviews. She emphasised that attempts to pause or delay the process would not succeed.
