Nandipha Magudumana’s Legal Team Turns To ConCourt Over Extradition Delays

The Thabo Bester prison escape trial has hit yet another roadblock, with Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s legal battle over her extradition dragging on in the Constitutional Court.
Prosecutors confirmed they would be notifying the justices about the continued delays caused by Magudumana’s pending appeal.
On Friday, proceedings at the Free State High Court were once again stalled as the court awaits direction from the apex court, which has yet to hear Magudumana’s application.
Nandipha Magudumana Extradition From Tanzania Under Dispute
Magudumana is challenging the legality of her extradition from Tanzania after the Supreme Court dismissed her earlier plea.
She and convicted murderer Thabo Bester were arrested in Tanzania in April 2023, following Bester’s high-profile escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre, where he was serving a life sentence.
Her lawyers told the Free State High Court that despite approaching the Constitutional Court months ago, they have yet to receive a date or directives regarding the matter.

The delays have stalled the broader escape case involving Magudumana, Bester, and seven other accused. The trial has now been postponed to early next year, though the matter is expected to return to court in December for an update on the readiness for trial.
