Nandipha Magudumana Was Paid For Netflix Documentary She Now Wants To Block, Court Hears

The Pretoria High Court has heard that Dr Nandipha Magudumana received payment from the production company behind the Netflix documentary she is now seeking to block.
Magudumana, alongside her partner Thabo Bester, approached the court to secure a temporary interdict against the production. Bester’s legal team argued that the documentary portrays him as guilty of the charges he faces.
Both Bester and Magudumana, along with seven others, are accused of orchestrating his daring escape from Mangaung prison, where he was serving a life sentence.
Dispute Over Agreement With Storyscope
Magudumana’s lawyer, advocate Lerato Moela, told the court that she had signed an agreement with the production company, Storyscope, but now believes the contract is unenforceable.
Moela argued that the document was invalid because it was not signed by the company’s authorising agent.

Representing Netflix, advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi countered that Magudumana had misrepresented the contents of the agreement.

He told the court that Magudumana was paid for the use of her archive material and had been legally represented by her attorneys when she signed the deal.
