Nandi Nyembe Still Waiting For Fundraiser Money: “It’s Winter And I Need Heater!”

Nandi Nyembe Still Waiting For Fundraiser Money: “It’s Winter And I Need Heater!”

Veteran actress Nandi Nyembe, best known for her legendary roles in Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, and Adulting, has finally spoken out — and mama is not okay. Despite a fundraising event held in her honour back in April at Disoufeng in Soweto, the beloved star says she hasn’t seen a cent of the money raised to support her.

In a candid update shared with Sunday World, the screen queen didn’t mince her words:

“It is disheartening that the money raised to help me has not reached me yet. It is winter, and I am in need of a heater and the basics to get me going.”

We’re talking about one of South Africa’s most respected performers — and she’s literally waiting for heating money? Something is not adding up, and Mzansi wants answers.

The Gauteng Film Commission is Holding the Bag?

So what’s the holdup? According to Nyembe, it’s admin drama with the Gauteng Film Commission that’s blocking the bag.

“I had no idea that the Gauteng Film Commission is the one who needs to give the go-ahead with regards to me getting the money,” she explained.

Meanwhile, fans who donated are demanding transparency — and some are already threatening to pull receipts.

The twist? This entire fundraising effort was sparked by an emotional video of Nyembe pleading for help, which touched hearts across the country. Many even donated directly to her bank account. Now it feels like that love has been met with red tape and radio silence.

Gayton McKenzie’s No-Show and Mzansi’s Cold Shoulder

To add to the drama, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie pledged R20,000 and promised a home visit — but according to Nyembe, he hasn’t pulled up yet.

“He has not yet come to visit me at home,” she revealed.

Yoh! Not the minister going M.I.A after making it public? Fans are side-eyeing the entire situation and asking: how does a national icon end up stuck in this mess?
