‘Siyabonga, Dr Mngoma!’ Nandi Madida Shares Emotional Tribute As Her Father Retires

Media personality, singer, and The Motherhood Network host Nandi Madida has left South Africans emotional after sharing a powerful tribute to her father, Dr Thami Mngoma, who has officially retired from medicine.
Taking to social media, Nandi revealed that one of her biggest personal highlights of 2025 is watching her father close a chapter on a career that wasn’t just about healing bodies — but breaking barriers.
“My personal highlight for 2025! Yesterday, my father retired as a medical doctor. And I don’t think the weight of that moment will ever fully land,” she shared.
And whew… Mzansi felt every word.
From apartheid to purpose
Nandi reflected on her father’s extraordinary journey, reminding followers that he became a doctor during apartheid, a time when Black South Africans were deliberately denied opportunities.
Despite growing up in extreme poverty, battling a permanent eye condition that nearly left him blind as a child in rural KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Mngoma never abandoned his calling.

“He believed in his calling long before the world made room for him,” Nandi wrote — and that line alone had timelines pausing.
According to the star, her father’s discipline, grit, and unshakable faith laid the foundation for the life she and her siblings were able to live — one filled with safety, love, and freedom to dream.
Nandi Madida’s tribute moved Mzansi
Nandi didn’t shy away from honouring the sacrifices that often go unseen — the late nights, the quiet consistency, and the way her father showed up not only as a brilliant doctor, but as a present and loving dad.
“The sacrifices we didn’t even see at the time… the quiet consistency of showing up,” she wrote, adding that her father never sought applause for his work.
The moment that truly broke hearts? When Nandi shared that her father once said his children had been good to him — something she described as a privilege, not a burden.
She ended her tribute with words that had fans flooding the comments with tears and praise:
“I will always be Daddy’s girl. Until the wheels fall off… Thank you for choosing courage, again and again. I love you endlessly. Siyabonga Dr Thami Mngoma AKA Dad.”
