Nambitha Mpumlwana Takes On Iconic Role Of Winnie Mandela In New Production

Renowned actress Nambitha Mpumlwana is set to bring the iconic character of Winnie Mandela to life in an upcoming theatre production titled “The Cry of Winnie Mandela.”

Alongside a star-studded cast including Rami Chuene, Ayanda Sibisi, Siyasanga Papu, Pulane Rampoana, and Les Nkosi, Mpumlwana is ready to captivate audiences with her portrayal of the political leader.

With over two decades of experience in the industry, Mpumlwana is no stranger to taking on challenging roles. In preparation for the part, she immersed herself in studying Winnie Mandela’s history and watching videos of her.

However, Mpumlwana emphasises that she aims to create a fresh and unique interpretation of the character.

While Mpumlwana may not be a familiar face on soap operas or daytime television, she has taken on various exciting projects. From playing a 200-year-old woman in a futuristic podcast alongside Thapelo Mokoena to starring in the mini-series “The Kingdom,” which explores Bible parables and stories of faith, hope, and love, Mpumlwana’s versatility knows no bounds.

Directed by Kgomotso ‘Momo’ Matsunyane, “The Cry of Winnie Mandela” is based on the beloved novel by esteemed poet, novelist, and essayist Njabulo Ndebele.
