Nafiz Modack Turns On Co-Accused, Claims Conspiracy With Former AGU Boss

Alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack has accused his co-accused of conspiring with former Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) boss Major-General Andre Lincoln to gather evidence against him.

Modack, who is facing multiple charges, resumed his testimony after a two-day break in the ongoing trial.

The State continued to cross-examine him regarding text messages between himself and co-accused Amaal Jantjies.

Foiled Grenade Attack And Alleged Plot With Jantjies

The co-accused Jantjies, along with her former partner Janick Adonis, rose to public attention in 2019 after a failed grenade attack on journalist Jacques Kinnear’s home.

The State alleges that Modack sent Kinnear’s home address to Jantjies ahead of the attack, but Modack denies this, stating instead that he sent his own address as Adonis’s father was supposed to collect money at his home.

The trial has focused on voice notes exchanged between Modack and Adonis, with the State suggesting these communications implicate Modack in the plot.

Confusion And Laughter In Courtroom

During the testimony, Modack claimed that Adonis and the co-accused Jantjies were working with Lincoln at the AGU base in Faure, not in court as suggested by the voicenotes.

Judge Robert Henney humorously questioned Modack about the term “gat,” asking if it referred to Lincoln’s “gat,” sparking laughter in the courtroom.

Modack insisted that Jantjies and Adonis were involved in a setup against him, accusing them of working with Lincoln to undermine him.

The trial continues as Modack’s defense and the State’s evidence clash.
