Nafiz Modack Reasserts Innocence In William Booth Attempted Murder Case

Alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack continues to deny any role in the attempted murder of well-known criminal defence attorney William Booth, who survived a shooting at his Higgovale home five years ago.

Modack, alongside five co-accused, faces charges linked to the attack. Despite the mounting evidence presented in court, he insists he was not involved in orchestrating the incident.

He acknowledges he was hired to recover a debt from one of Booth’s clients, but maintains this had nothing to do with the shooting.

State Evidence Highlights Timeline of “Pinging” Activity

One of Modack’s co-accused, Jacques Cronje, was arrested after allegedly threatening a former State witness, known only as “Vallie”, during a debt collection attempt. Cronje was taken into custody in April 2020 for breaching a protection order that Booth had secured on Vallie’s behalf.

State prosecutor Greg Wolmarans presented evidence showing that co-accused Zane Kilian began “pinging” Booth’s location shortly after Cronje’s arrest.

“And we also saw Booth’s involvement that ultimately led to the arrest of your man Cronje on the second of April and then suddenly we see an explosion of pinging on Booth.”

Modack is expected back in the dock on Wednesday as his cross-examination continues in the unfolding high-profile case.
