Nafiz Modack Jailed For 10 Years For Corruption In Cape Town Court

Alleged Cape Town gang boss Nafiz Modack has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption. The Cape Town Regional Court ruled that three years of the sentence are suspended for five years, meaning Modack will serve seven years directly.

In addition to the prison term, the court declared him unfit to own or possess a firearm.

Nafiz Modack: Corruption Case Involving Former Police Brigadier

Modack was convicted in June for working with former senior police officer Brigadier Kolindren Govender. Govender admitted to his role in the case and has already been sentenced.

Hawks spokesperson Siyabulela Vukubi confirmed that investigations revealed Modack acted with a common purpose by paying R146,000 to Govender in exchange for preferential treatment.

“Govender prevented a cooperation between an officer from the SAPS Paarl vehicle identification section and the investigating officer in a matter based at Cape Town Central SAPS. As a result of Govender’s actions, the Mercedes-Benz, which belonged to Modack, was never seized as it was the centre of investigation,” said Vukubi.

Govender received a five-year sentence, suspended for four and a half years, after pleading guilty to being in a corrupt relationship with Modack.
