Multi-Millionaire Taxi Boss Bafana Sindane Named As Fourth Accused In Mpumalanga Extortion Case

Multi-millionaire taxi boss Bafana Sindane has been identified as the fourth suspect linked to a high-profile extortion and money laundering case in Mpumalanga.

Sindane is expected to appear alongside taxi tycoon Joe Sibanyoni and two other accused at the Kwaggafontein Magistrates Court on Friday.

Three of the four suspects were arrested during a police operation on Tuesday and made their first court appearance on Wednesday.

Taxi Bosses Including Bafana Sindane Return To Court

The matter was postponed to Friday to allow for formal bail application proceedings.

The case has drawn widespread attention across Mpumalanga, with residents taking to social media to share reactions, fears and allegations connected to the accused.

Heavy police deployment was again visible at the Kwaggafontein Magistrates Court ahead of Friday’s proceedings as the accused prepared to return to the dock.

Shaun Abrahams Leads Defence Team In High-Profile Case

During Wednesday’s court appearance, proceedings were briefly delayed after the State and the defence team clashed over the duration of the postponement.

The defence team is being led by former National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams.

Friday’s hearing is expected to centre on bail arguments before the Chief Magistrate of Mpumalanga.

Speaking outside court, defence attorney Mphoke Magane said the legal team was fully prepared for the application.

“And we are going to court; we are ready for bail application. We are definitely ready for bail. I am the attorney for the fourth accused and Sibanyoni.”

It remains unclear whether the National Prosecuting Authority intends to pursue additional charges against the accused.

The case continues to generate significant public interest as investigations unfold.
