Muizenberg Man Sentenced To 21 Years For Wife’s Murder

A 76-year-old Muizenberg man, William Carter, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for murdering his wife, Franziska Carter.
Carter was sentenced for murdering his wife in a brutal attack that occurred just days before their divorce proceedings were finalized in October 2020.

Carter pleaded guilty to the crime and admitted to staging a house robbery to cover his tracks.

According to court documents, Carter’s violent outburst was sparked by an argument with his wife over their impending divorce.
On the day of the murder, Carter who was sentenced had gone to lunch with a friend and later bought a bottle of tequila.
He entered the house without permission and waited for his wife, who was furious to find him there.

The argument escalated, and Carter grabbed a tyre iron and chased Franziska into the kitchen, where he beat her mercilessly before stabbing her in the back.

The Western Cape High Court handed down the 21-year sentence after considering the severity of the crime and Carter’s guilty plea.

The court before Carter was sentenced heard that Carter attempted to deceive the police by staging a robbery, refusing to open the door to investigators.
