Mthethwa Family Receives Death Certificate As Repatriation Of Late Ambassador’s Body Begins

The family of the late South African Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has received his death certificate, marking the start of preparations to return his body home.

This development follows the deployment of five experienced South African police officers to France by acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia. The officers will assist in investigating the circumstances surrounding Mthethwa’s death.

The ambassador was discovered dead outside the Hyatt Hotel in Paris last week after being reported missing. Reports suggest he may have fallen from the hotel’s 22nd floor in what is suspected to be a suicide.

Investigation Into Ambassador’s Death Underway

Authorities have confirmed that post-mortem results are expected within the next few days. The South African investigative team will collaborate closely with French law enforcement to ensure transparency and thoroughness in uncovering the truth.

Cachalia’s spokesperson, Kamogelo Mokgotsi, said the investigation aims to ensure justice and accountability.

“This collaborative effort aims to support the ongoing inquest and uphold the principles of justice and accountability,” she explained.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia emphasised the government’s dedication to uncovering the full circumstances of the tragedy.

“The deployment of these investigators reflects our commitment to ensuring that every effort is made to establish the full facts surrounding this tragedy,” he said.

Cachalia also assured continued cooperation with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and expressed his condolences to the Mthethwa family during this difficult time.
