Mpumalanga Women Arrested For Allegedly Killing Friend Over R1,000

Two women, aged 25 and 26, appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today for the alleged murder of a 35-year-old woman and the attempted murder of her boyfriend. The violent incident unfolded on June 6 in Sakhile, Mpumalanga, and was allegedly triggered by a dispute over R1,000 stolen at a party.

The victim was reportedly walking with her boyfriend when the two suspects—who were known to her—confronted and accused her of the theft.

“The suspects reportedly took the victim and her male friend to a shack belonging to one of the suspect’s boyfriend,” said provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Jabu Ndubane.

Assault Involved Cable Cord, Shovel, and Knife

Once inside the shack, the suspects allegedly tortured the couple, demanding they return the money. The brutal assault included beatings with an electric cable cord, a shovel, and repeated stabbings with a knife.

“They assaulted them using an electric cable cord and shovel and used a knife to stab them while demanding their money,” said Ndubane.

The woman eventually lost consciousness from the injuries. In a last-minute act, the suspects transported her to a nearby clinic, where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Boyfriend in Hospital as Case Draws Public Outcry

The woman’s boyfriend survived the attack and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition. Police have since opened cases of murder and attempted murder as investigations continue.

Authorities are urging anyone with more information to come forward as the community reels from the shocking violence among friends.

“This kind of brutality is deeply disturbing and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” said a local community leader.

The suspects were expected to make their first court appearance today.
