Mpumalanga School Stabbing: Grade 11 Learner Killed At MD Moetanalo Secondary

A Grade 11 pupil, aged 19, has been killed in a shocking stabbing at MD Moetanalo Secondary School in the Steve Tshwete municipality, Mpumalanga, sparking renewed concern over safety at schools.

The deadly incident unfolded on the school premises while learners were moving between classes, leaving the school community traumatised.

Deadly Altercation During School Hours

According to the Mpumalanga department of education, the stabbing occurred on Tuesday during a routine class change.

“It is alleged the pupil was fatally stabbed by a fellow pupil on the premises while pupils were changing classes on Tuesday,” the department said.

“Preliminary information indicates an altercation ensued between the two pupils which culminated in the victim being stabbed in the back.”

Suspect on the Run as Police Investigate

After the attack, the alleged perpetrator reportedly fled the scene. Authorities have launched a manhunt and are working to establish the full sequence of events leading up to the killing.

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are pursuing the suspect, who allegedly fled the scene after the incident.”

Mpumalanga education MEC Lindi Masina visited the institution and the victim’s family on Wednesday. She was accompanied by departmental officials who will provide counselling and psychosocial support to affected pupils, staff and relatives.

The department has expressed its condolences to the family and the school community as investigations continue.
