Mpumalanga Motorists Warned Of Dangerous Driving Conditions Caused By Veld Fire Smoke

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison is urging motorists to exercise extreme caution as veld fires continue to blanket parts of the province in smoke.
Several key routes have been affected, with visibility significantly reduced on the N17 near Ermelo, the N4 between Witbank and Mbombela, the R536 in Sabie, and the R537 between Mbombela and Lydenburg.
Authorities say these conditions pose serious risks for drivers, increasing the likelihood of accidents if motorists do not adapt their driving behaviour.

Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi emphasised the importance of safe driving under these circumstances.
“We are appealing to motorists to reduce speed and also maintain a prudent following distance,” he said.
Mmusi further advised that drivers should continuously adapt their driving style to suit weather and environmental conditions, including smoke from veld fires and misty patches on certain roads.

Motorists are urged to remain alert and prioritise safety until conditions improve.
