Mpho Mafole Murder Accused Thabani Ntshalintshali Remains Behind Bars As Investigation Continues

Thabani Goodwill Ntshalintshali, 40, made a brief appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of City of Ekurhuleni senior auditor Mpho Mafole. The case has been postponed to August 15 to allow for further investigation.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, Mafole was fatally shot on June 30 shortly after attending a work-related meeting in Kempton Park.

“The state alleges that on June 30 in Kempton Park, the deceased was allegedly followed after attending a work-related meeting on the day of the incident. He was shot and declared dead at the scene,” said Mjonondwane.

Suspicious Vehicle Leads Police to the Accused

Authorities were led to Ntshalintshali after a witness came forward with critical information. A suspicious vehicle had been spotted near the crime scene, prompting police to launch a targeted investigation.

“A witness later informed police about a suspicious vehicle in the area, which led authorities to launch an investigation that eventually pointed to the accused,” Mjonondwane explained.

The state believes Ntshalintshali’s involvement is linked to more than just this case.

Previous Murder Case and Bail Opposition

In a disturbing development, Ntshalintshali is also facing another murder charge, with a trial scheduled for August 12. Given this pending case and the ongoing investigation into Mafole’s murder, the state intends to oppose any bail application.

“Due to this outstanding case, the state will oppose the bail application. The investigation is ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out,” said Mjonondwane.

Ntshalintshali remains in custody until his next court appearance.
