Mother Shot Dead After Dad Refuses To Pay Protection Money

A Delft family has been left shattered after 22-year-old mother Lisanda Sondlo was shot dead just metres from her home — allegedly because her father refused to pay extortion money to local thugs.

Sondlo was walking home around 8pm on Friday night with her seven-year-old brother after buying meat for supper when she was ambushed and shot dead on Tallis Street in Delft South.
She was killed a door away from her father’s house — and moments after he had given her money to buy food.

‘They Said They’d Kill My Family’

Her devastated father, who asked not to be named for safety reasons, said he had been selling beers for three years to support his family. But lately, he’d been harassed by gangsters demanding “protection fees.”

“Three weeks ago, six guys came to my house — three at my door, and three waiting in an Avanza,” he said.

“They told me if I don’t pay, they’ll kill me, my daughter, and my family. They said they know where we all live. I told them to rather shoot me — I won’t pay them a cent.”

Moments before the shooting, he said he gave Lisanda money to buy food.

“I heard gunshots. My son ran in shouting, ‘Daddy, Daddy, Lisa has been shot.’ When I went out, she was lying in the street covered in blood. I just held her. She was already gone.”

Father Now Living in Fear after 

The grieving man says his life is now in danger and that he wants to stop selling beers, but it’s his only source of income.
“If I could find a job, I would stop. But this is how I feed my children,” he said.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a murder case has been opened and is under investigation.
