Morero Vows Water Cuts In Other Areas To Restore Supply in Westbury

Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has assured Westbury residents that urgent measures will be taken to address their water crisis. This follows two days of protests in the area, where frustrated residents demanded immediate intervention over persistent water shortages.

Speaking at a packed community hall in Newlands on Thursday afternoon, Morero pledged that the City of Johannesburg would temporarily cut water in other parts of the city to channel supply into three key reservoirs serving Westbury.

Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill Reservoirs to Be Prioritised

The reservoirs set to benefit from the planned intervention include Crosby, Brixton, and Hursthill. According to Morero, redirecting water from other areas will help stabilise supply to residents who have been without consistent access.

“In the next two days, we will switch off other areas to try get your levels up so that the water can be supplied this side,” Morero told the community.

The mayor also highlighted that the city has set aside R800 million to deal with water infrastructure challenges. He assured residents that the current crisis is receiving top priority.

“The interventions that we will be doing here, we want to make sure we restore water in the next seven days,” Morero said.

Residents have expressed cautious optimism, awaiting the promised restoration of services.
