Tragically, Gomolemo died at the scene, while Mavimbela and the boy were rushed to the hospital. Mavimbela is now out of a coma and asking about her daughter, but her family has been hesitant to inform her of the tragic loss.

Mavimbela’s husband, Tshepo Kekana, explained, “Whenever she starts asking about her daughter, we make excuses or just change the topic. We can’t tell her now. The aim is to allow her to heal completely before delivering the news about our little girl.”

Recovery of the Injured

Mavimbela and the 13-year-old boy are both recovering well, with Kekana confirming that they are receiving medical care. The boy, however, is still undergoing physiotherapy after sustaining serious injuries, including the need for steel implants in both legs.

His aunt, Mihloti Ndlovu, shared that he does not remember the events of the crash. “When he asks why he’s in the hospital, we tell him it’s because he is sick,” she said.

While the boy’s physical recovery is ongoing, his family remains hopeful that he will soon be able to return home. “He’s struggling to walk and we think maybe after the physio, he may go back home,” Ndlovu added.

Shaune Mogaila, the driver of the car involved in the crash, is currently out on R20,000 bail. He is expected to return to court on February 4, 2025, to face charges related to the incident.
