Grieving Mom Discovers Missing Daughter Was Found Dead In Ditch

A mother’s desperate search for her missing daughter ended in heartbreak when she discovered that her child had been murdered.

Fundiswa Masa, 45, was at work last Wednesday when her 24-year-old daughter, Thina, went missing. Masa, who works night shifts, only realised on Friday morning that Thina had not been home.

“I last saw her on Wednesday before I left for work. When I returned on Thursday morning, the door was open, and the burglar gate was unlocked,” Masa said.

Initially, she assumed Thina was visiting a neighbour and went to sleep. By Friday, alarmed by her daughter’s absence, she began calling friends and her daughter’s boyfriend, but no one had seen her since Tuesday.

The Shocking Discovery

When Masa reported Thina missing to the police, a chilling detail emerged. “The detective asked me to describe my child and then mentioned a woman’s body found in a ditch,” she said. Masa had heard about the discovery on Facebook but dismissed it as unrelated due to initial reports describing the victim differently.

When the detective showed her items found with the victim, Masa’s worst fears were confirmed. “He showed me her cerise pink dress and shoes. I knew it was my daughter,” she said, adding that the officer spared her from seeing the victim’s injuries.

Police Investigation and Arrest

According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the body was discovered in a ditch in Asanda Village, Cape Town, on Thursday evening by a passerby. A 31-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with murder.

“The victim’s body was discovered by a member of the public who alerted the police. The circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation,” Twigg reported.

The suspect, who appeared in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday, is unknown to the family. “I don’t recognise him. He looks like a thug,” Masa said, adding that the suspect claimed to have no fixed address.

Fundiswa Masa is now left grappling with the tragic loss of her daughter. “She was so young and didn’t deserve this,” Masa said, her voice heavy with grief.

Police investigations continue as the community mourns another life cut short by violence.
