Mokima Music Claps Back At Makhadzi’s Explosive Royalty Dispute Claims

BET Award–winning singer Makhadzi, real name Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, has set the music industry buzzing with allegations that her royalties are being collected behind her back.
The Limpopo-born star recently claimed that Open Mic Productions, her former record label, linked her to Mokima Music & Publishing—part of the Virgin Music Group—without her approval.
“While preparing for my album, I’m making sure that my things move nicely and everything is in order. After my fallout with Open Mic, I never signed a publishing deal with any company,” Makhadzi said.
The Alleged Nazo Digital Connection
Makhadzi further alleged that Open Mic established a company called Nazo, in partnership with Mokima Production, which she believes has been collecting her publishing royalties.
“I found out that my old management at Open Mic opened a company called Nazo in partnership with Mukima Production that works with a new company called Virgin Music Group.
“The two companies are busy collecting my publishing royalties without my knowledge. I don’t know at this point what you want from me. I am not bothering anyone, I am just doing my thing,” she wrote.

Open Mic’s Lionel Jamela brushed off her claims, saying: “Again, we will [not] entertain this. She must focus on her own company.”
Mokima Music Fires Back With Signed Contract Proof
Mokima Music has now hit back, strongly defending its reputation. The company insists it entered into a legal Administration and Publishing Agreement with Nazo Digital, which it says represented itself as Makhadzi’s official publisher.
“We have seen a signed publishing agreement between Nazo Digital and the composer, Makhadzi, which contains her signature,” Mokima Music said in a statement. The company accused the star of defamation and stressed that all royalties were paid directly to Nazo Digital in line with the agreement.
Makhadzi’s Camp Prepares for Album Release Amid Drama
With her highly anticipated new album on the way, Makhadzi’s management team is scrambling to address the royalty storm.
“This is happening at a crucial time when [Makhadzi’s album] is about to be released. It’s obviously a negative force,” said her manager, Maphuti Mathatho.
