Mohamed Salah Nets 250th Goal As Liverpool Beat Aston Villa 2-0 To End Losing Streak

Mohamed Salah marked another historic chapter in his Liverpool career by scoring his 250th goal for the club in a commanding 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday.

The Egyptian forward struck just before half-time to put the hosts ahead, setting them on course to end a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats. Ryan Gravenberch sealed the result early in the second half, his deflected effort confirming a much-needed victory for Arne Slot’s side.

Villa started brightly and nearly took the lead through Morgan Rogers, whose strike hit the post in front of the Kop.

Hugo Ekitike later saw a goal disallowed for offside, but Liverpool capitalised when a defensive mix-up gifted them the opener. Pau Torres lost his footing as Emi Martinez’s misplaced pass fell straight to Salah, who calmly slotted home.

Mohamed Salah Equals Wayne Rooney’s Record for One Club

Salah’s goal not only secured Liverpool’s lead but also equalled Wayne Rooney’s Premier League record for a single club — with 276 goal involvements (188 goals and 88 assists).

The victory lifted Liverpool to third in the Premier League standings, while Villa’s defeat ended their four-match winning streak and pushed them back into the bottom half of the table.

Speaking after the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised Salah’s performance, “Yeah, that’s huge. That’s almost unbelievable if you score 250 goals for one club. If you score 250 goals it’s already unbelievable, let alone for one club. You don’t see that much in football anymore.”

Slot also commended the forward’s all-round display, “Apart from the goal, he had a very good performance.

“He helped us when we played long and did his defensive work as well. It’s special for him to score 250, but for him, scoring is not even that special because that’s what he always does.”

Emery Defends Villa’s Style Despite Costly Error

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery stood by his side’s approach despite the costly mistake that led to Salah’s opener.

“We try to play with personality and through our rules and take good positioning,” said Emery. “It was a huge mistake but part of our process. We must avoid mistakes like today’s first goal, but we are building through our style.”

Emery also confirmed a setback for defender Tyrone Mings, who suffered a hamstring injury late in the match after Villa had used all their substitutions.

“It is a hamstring. Normally some weeks, he will be out,” the Spaniard added.

Salah, reflecting on his milestone, expressed pride in his continued success with Liverpool, “It’s a great feeling to score goals and win trophies for this big club. It’s something I don’t take for granted. I’m so proud.”
