Horrific Mob Justice: TUT Lecturer Killed Near Soshanguve Campus

An alleged part-time lecturer from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was brutally killed in a suspected mob justice attack near the institution’s Soshanguve south campus on Tuesday night.

Ward 35 councillor Kholofelo Mashapa confirmed that the incident occurred in a street close to the campus in Soshanguve.

A video showing the man’s body lying in the middle of an empty road has been seen by SurgeZirc SA.

Police Confirm Murder Case

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that a murder case has been opened.

“[We] confirm that a murder case has been opened after receiving a complaint of mob justice at Soshanguve Block L. No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is underway,” Sibeko said.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased.

Allegations Spark Mob Justice Attack

According to Mashapa, the attack was allegedly linked to accusations of rape involving two children. The identities and ages of the children have not been disclosed, and police have not confirmed the allegations.

“It is alleged that less than 10 people attacked the lecturer, on the basis of the allegations,” Mashapa said.

He further claimed the lecturer was forcibly removed from his home before being assaulted.

“He was fetched from his home and beaten to death,” Mashapa said.

Law enforcement has urged community members to allow the justice system to take its course and refrain from taking matters into their own hands.

While The Citizen has been informed that the deceased was a staff member at TUT, the university had not responded to media queries at the time of publication.
