Mob Justice Horror: Man Killed, Two Burned Alive After Cable Theft Accusations In Qunu

A 30-year-old man has been killed and two others seriously injured in a mob justice incident in Qunu.

The attack, which took place on Tuesday at around 11:20, followed allegations that the three men had been stealing electricity cables.

Victims Found Burned Next to the Road

According to police spokesperson Welile Matyolo, officers responded to reports of suspected thieves being apprehended by community members.

“Police were informed about the alleged thieves caught by the community members, all believed to be in their 30’s of age each, and on police arrival, the three bodies were next to the road, all burnt.”

One man had already died at the scene, while the other two were still alive.

“The two were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital. There were no community members in sight.”

Police Condemn Mob Justice As Manhunt Underway

Norman Modishana, OR Tambo District Commissioner, condemned the incident and called for calm.

He urged residents to reject mob justice and work with authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to book.

Police have launched a manhunt for those involved in the attack.

Authorities have appealed to the public for information that may lead to arrests.
