Mkhwanazi Will Testify First At Judicial Inquiry Into Justice System Interference

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will be the first witness to appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating interference within South Africa’s criminal justice system.

Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed during a briefing in Pretoria on Monday that consultations with Mkhwanazi are already underway and will continue into next week.

Commission Hearings to Begin Next Week

The public hearings will officially begin next Wednesday under the leadership of retired Constitutional Court Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

Michaels emphasized that the Commission is preparing extensively for the start of the hearings, where high-profile testimonies are expected to shine a spotlight on alleged misconduct within the justice sector.

The Judicial Commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July, shortly after Mkhwanazi made damning allegations of corruption and collusion within the country’s criminal justice system.

The police commissioner’s testimony is expected to set the tone for the proceedings, as the inquiry digs deeper into the claims that have rocked law enforcement and governance structures.
