Mkhwanazi Says Senzo Mchunu Had ‘Unethical Relationship’ With Brown Mogotsi

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has told Parliament that he can confirm Minister Senzo Mchunu maintained what he described as an “unethical relationship” with controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi.
Mkhwanazi made the revelation while testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee hearings on Tuesday, where he was questioned about alleged links between Mchunu and figures in the criminal underworld.
According to Mkhwanazi, he has obtained evidence showing that Mogotsi played a role in organising meetings during the African National Congress’s (ANC) January 8 celebrations in Cape Town. These meetings involved Mchunu and murder-accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Evidence Presented Before Parliament
The commissioner was responding to questions from MK Party MP Sibonelo Nomvalo, who pressed him on the alleged connections between Mchunu, Mogotsi and Matlala.
Mkhwanazi further stated that messages discovered during investigations revealed Mogotsi’s involvement in the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team.
When asked directly whether he believed Mchunu had a “deep, unethical relationship” with Mogotsi and Matlala, Mkhwanazi replied affirmatively.
“I can confirm that the relationship between Mogotsi and the minister is unethical. Unethical in the sense that, for starters, the minister claimed he did not know the fellow he’s talking about. But it’s been proven by the same minister that the person is a comrade,” Mkhwanazi said.

Mkhwanazi told MPs that communication records showed ongoing contact between Mchunu and Mogotsi through December and January.
He added that Mogotsi had also arranged for Matlala to “take care of the minister’s guests” during the ANC’s January 8 event in Cape Town.
