MK Party Announces Leadership Shake-Up In Gauteng And Limpopo

The MK Party has undertaken a major restructuring of its leadership, announcing new permanent leadership structures in Gauteng and Limpopo provinces.

This decision was ratified by the party’s national officials, who hold the authority to make interim decisions on political, ideological, and organisational matters between National High Command meetings.

Provincial Leadership Restructuring

Addressing the media, party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu expressed gratitude to outgoing leaders for their contributions, including the successful coordination of the party’s first-anniversary programs.

“The national officials adopted a minimum programme for 2025, which will be refined during our annual HUVO workshop in February. This program includes the establishment of uMkhonto we Sizwe detachments at all levels—provincial, regional, sub-regional, and ward—across South Africa by the end of 2025,” Shivambu stated.

Since its inception, the one-year-old party has relied on task teams but is now transitioning to appointing permanent leaders in all provinces.

Internal Discipline and New Appointments

Acknowledging internal challenges and competition for leadership roles, Shivambu emphasised strict adherence to party rules, prohibiting appeals of national decisions.

“We call for maximum discipline. No parallel structures or processes outside organisational mandates will be tolerated. We will act decisively against defiance of upper structures’ positions,” he said.

The leadership overhaul includes eight new members added to the high command: Serame Mogale, Luther Lebelo, Jabu Khoza, Madume Choku, Lindiwe Ntshali, Puseletso Skhosana, Dumisani Nxumalo, and Sibusiso Radebe. Mogale will also serve as the head of political education.

Strengthening Disciplinary and Legal Frameworks

Advocate Dali Mpofu has been appointed chair of the National Disciplinary Committee, with party deputy president John Hlophe presiding over appeals. Shivambu highlighted the duo’s legal expertise as crucial for maintaining discipline.

The party’s women’s and youth wings are also being prioritised, with leadership tasked to draft foundational documents, establish structures, and finalise operational details.

Commander Nothando “Thando” Shozi—Malanga has been appointed national convener of the MK Women’s League, and Lindiwe Irene Makubu (Mtshali) has been named national coordinator. Makubu, born in exile and the daughter of liberation fighter Eric Stalin Mtshali, brings significant activist and leadership experience. The Women’s League will officially launch on August 9.

For the MK Youth League, Qiniso Cibane was named national convener and Nkateko Mkhabela national coordinator. The youth league’s launch is set for June 16.

KwaZulu-Natal is next in line for permanent leadership appointments, set to be announced on Friday. Structures in other provinces, including North West, Free State, Eastern Cape, and Western Cape, are expected to follow in the coming weeks.

Shivambu noted that the Northern Cape remains without a detachment, pending sufficient groundwork to justify its establishment. For now, deployed NHC representatives will oversee leadership in the province.

This restructuring marks a pivotal step in the MK Party’s efforts to solidify its organisational foundation and expand its political influence nationwide.
