Mjejane Five-Year-Old Killed After Being Dragged Under Bus

A tragic incident has shaken the Mjejane community after a young child lost their life in a devastating road accident involving a school bus.

A child believed to be about five years old was killed yesterday, Thursday, 5 February, on the D533, widely known as Jeppes Reef Road, in Mjejane. The fatal incident occurred shortly after a school bus stopped to drop off a group of learners.
Reports indicate that the child ended up beneath the bus as it pulled away from the drop-off point, sustaining fatal injuries.
Child Pulled Under Bus After Learners Disembark
Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi confirmed details surrounding the incident. He said the child was pulled under the bus as it moved off after schoolchildren had exited the vehicle.
“The child was pulled under a bus as it moved off after a group of schoolchildren had disembarked,” Mmusi said.

He added that no other children or members of the public were injured.
Authorities Hunt for Unidentified Bus
Mmusi also revealed that the bus involved in the fatal accident has not yet been identified. Authorities have since launched an investigation to locate the vehicle and determine how the tragedy unfolded.
“The bus involved has not been identified and no other injuries were reported,” he added.
The incident has renewed concerns about learner safety during school transport drop-offs, particularly along busy routes such as Jeppes Reef Road.
