Mitchells Plain Boy, 9, Among Three Gunned Down As Hitmen Storm Home

A nine-year-old boy and two adults in their 20s were shot dead in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday night in what police believe was a gang-related hit.

The deadly shooting unfolded just after 8 pm on Viscount Street, Rocklands, when four armed men opened fire on a house before forcing their way inside and continuing the attack.

Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut confirmed that the young boy, a 21-year-old woman, and a 26-year-old man died at the scene.
Two other men, aged 51 and 36, were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

“Preliminary reports indicate that four unidentified gunmen opened fire on the premises before entering the house and shooting the victims,” Traut said.

Mitchells Plain Anti-Gang Unit Hunts Suspects

The Anti-Gang Unit has taken over the investigation, with detectives said to be chasing multiple leads as the search for the killers intensifies.

Traut confirmed: “[They] are pursuing several promising leads to track down the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime.”

Police have not yet revealed a motive, but investigators are treating the incident as gang-related due to the nature of the attack.

Police Commissioner Slams ‘Cowardly and Senseless’ Attack

Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile condemned the killings in the strongest terms, warning gangsters that law enforcement will not back down.

“This cowardly and senseless act will not go unanswered,” Patekile said.
“Gangsterism has no place in our society. We will not allow criminals to hold our communities hostage through fear and violence.”

Issuing a stern warning to those terrorising communities, he added: “Your days of terror are numbered. We are coming [for you], and we will ensure you face the full might of the law.”
