Missing Pregnant Woman Found Buried In Cemetery, Boyfriend Arrested

Police have confirmed that the body of 23-year-old Shanice Chante Rudolph, who was four months pregnant, was discovered in a shallow grave at Klip Road Cemetery in Grassy Park, Cape Town on Tuesday.

A 42-year-old man, believed to be her boyfriend, has been taken into custody and is expected to appear shortly in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

Rudolph vanished last week, sparking growing concern in her community. She was last seen alive between 4 and 5 December in Ouboet Street in Cafda, Retreat.

SAPS Confirms Gruesome Discovery at Klip Road Cemetery

Police were alerted on 9 December after the grave was spotted inside the cemetery. Reports have emerged suggesting that the victim’s remains may have been placed above another existing burial, though authorities have not yet verified this claim.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk stated that Rudolph’s body was located following a murder investigation launched by Grassy Park police.

He reported: “Grassy Park police registered a murder case following the discovery of the body of a 23-year-old woman in a shallow grave, on Tuesday, December 9, at about 1.10pm at Klip Road cemetery.”

He added: “She was reported as missing on December 5 at Steenberg SAPS. The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. This case will be transferred to Steenberg SAPS for further investigation.

“A 42-year-old suspect was arrested for murder and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once charged.”

Investigation Continues Pregnant Woman’s Lover Awaits Court Appearance

Following the discovery, SAPS cordoned off the area and initiated an excavation to recover the remains. Officers are continuing their investigation to determine what led to the young woman’s death and burial at the cemetery.

The arrested suspect remains in police custody while detectives finalise the murder docket for court proceedings.
