Missing Oudtshoorn Woman Janine Stander Found Dead In Canal, Police Launch Inquest

Oudtshoorn police have launched an inquest following the discovery of a woman’s body earlier this week.
The victim, 39-year-old Janine Stander, had been reported missing a week ago. Her body was discovered on Tuesday morning in a canal between Oudtshoorn and Dysselsdorp, after being spotted by a member of the public.
Police Confirm Identity of the Victim
Police spokesperson Christopher Spies confirmed the recovery, saying: “Oudtshoorn police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 39-year-old woman was retrieved from the water between Oudtshoorn and Dysselsdorp on Tuesday morning. The woman was later identified as Janine Stander, who was reported missing last week.”

Authorities say the circumstances surrounding Stander’s death remain unclear at this stage. Spies added that the incident forms part of an ongoing police investigation.
