Miss South Africa 2025 Winner Won’t Compete At Miss Universe – First Time In 27 Years

For the first time since 1998, South Africa won’t be sending its Miss South Africa winner to the Miss Universe pageant. The organization confirmed at a media briefing that the newly crowned Miss South Africa 2025 will not travel to the 74th Miss Universe competition.

The main reason? Timing. This year’s Miss SA finale is set for October 25, leaving less than a month before Miss Universe, which kicks off on November 21.

One official explained simply: “There is just not enough time between the crowning of Miss South Africa and the Miss Universe finals this year.”

Miss South Africa 2025 Faces Historic Shake-Up

This marks a major break in tradition, as Miss South Africa has consistently been on the Miss Universe stage for nearly three decades. The last time the country was absent was in 1998, when Kerishnie Naicker became the first contestant to officially represent South Africa under the Miss SA license.

Before that milestone, South Africa’s Miss Universe contestants were chosen through other pageants.

It’s still unclear whether South Africa will completely miss the 2025 Miss Universe competition or if another organization could step in to secure the Miss Universe South Africa license before the event.

This comes after a turbulent year for the Miss SA brand, with major resignations from Stephanie Weil, Werner Wessels, and Schané Fouché, and the loss of its Miss Supranational license earlier in 2025.
