Minnie Dlamini Hosts African Icons Tribute Concert For Joseph Shabalala

Television personality Minnie Dlamini is set to take the spotlight in Durban as host of the first-ever African Icons Tribute Concert on 24 September 2025. The event will celebrate the life and legacy of the late Joseph Shabalala, the visionary founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Grammy-winning producer Lebo M spearheads the tribute, promising an evening filled with music, storytelling, and a celebration of African culture.
Before Minnie Dlamini Comes, Pre-Concert Launch Kicks Off Weekend of Tributes
The festivities begin earlier on 20 September with a special tribute at Nu Metro’s VIP Cinema. The launch will feature the world premiere of Nkosinathi Shabalala’s music video, Misebenzi, honouring his late father.

“The launch is presented by Lebo M, highlighting his personal tribute to Shabalala. Joseph Shabalala’s artistry took South African music from the streets of Ladysmith to the world’s biggest stages, winning multiple Grammy Awards and sharing the spirit of isicathamiya with global audiences,” said Lebo M and his team.

The main event takes place on Heritage Day, 24 September, at the Durban Playhouse. Minnie will host a star-studded lineup including Big Zulu, Khuzani, Blaq Diamond, Sjava, Boity Thulo, Mnqobi Yazo, Naima Kay, Thee Legacy, and Nkosinathi Shabalala.
The concert aims to preserve African heritage while highlighting Joseph Shabalala’s lasting impact on South African music and the global stage.
