“Fake Wedding?!” Min Shaw Breaks Silence After Reports She Married A Man 39 Years Younger

Legendary Afrikaans singer Min Shaw, 91, has been dragged into a shocking marriage scandal after reports claimed she secretly tied the knot with a man nearly four decades younger than her — followed by a so-called luxury honeymoon in Mauritius.

But according to her family, none of it ever happened.

The iconic Jy is my liefling hitmaker, who ruled Afrikaans music in the 1950s and 60s, has now found herself at the centre of what her loved ones are calling a full-blown scam.

Min Shaw Marriage Scam Claims Rock Mzansi

The headlines suggested that Min Shaw had married her former manager, Shaun Mynhardt (52), leaving many South Africans stunned — and divided.

However, Shaw’s stepdaughter, Marina Summers, has come forward to shut the rumours down hard.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, 29 January 2026, Summers said there was no wedding, no honeymoon, and no romantic relationship.

“There was no wedding. I was shocked to see the magazine story,” she said.

Summers explained that Mynhardt and Shaw had known each other for years and even worked together on the kykNET show Die Huis Van Legendes. But according to the family, they had not spoken for three years before Mynhardt suddenly resurfaced on 26 November 2025, taking Shaw out briefly for her birthday.

That’s when things allegedly took a strange turn.

WhatsApp Proposal, Broken Promises & Hospital Drama

According to Summers, Mynhardt allegedly proposed to the elderly singer via WhatsApp, promising to collect her and move her to Cape Town for a “fresh start”.

But he never arrived.

The no-show reportedly left Shaw devastated, and she eventually cut off contact. Weeks later, on 28 December 2025, the singer was hospitalised after suffering a fall that resulted in a broken hip.

Things escalated further when Mynhardt was informed of her hospital admission.

He allegedly sent Shaw flowers — signed “to my beautiful wife.”

That moment, according to the family, broke her.

“She gave the flowers away, became extremely upset and realised she had been lied to,” Summers said.

The family further claims that Mynhardt emailed Huisgenoot while posing as Min Shaw, falsely stating that the two had married. They allege he also submitted photos of himself and Shaw taken at public events, passing them off as wedding and honeymoon pictures.

Manager Denies Everything

When confronted, Mynhardt strongly denied the accusations.

He claimed he never said he was married to Shaw, never had a romantic relationship with her, and insisted he regarded her as family.

“She is an elderly woman whom I consider family… I’ve known Auntie Min for about 30 years,” he said.

He further suggested that the controversy stemmed from jealousy surrounding the SA Legends Museum, and claimed Shaw allegedly owed him R8,000.
