Milnerton High Assault: Six Grade 11 Learners Granted Bail With Strict Court Conditions

Six Grade 11 learners from Milnerton High School have been released on R2,000 bail each after facing eight counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The Cape Town Magistrates Court granted the bail on Thursday.

Two underage learners, charged alongside them, were also released from police custody with a court warning. The group is accused of attacking a Grade 10 learner last Friday, an incident that was captured on video and quickly circulated online.

The accused surrendered to the Milnerton Police Station before appearing in court.

Milnerton High: Strict Bail Conditions Set to Protect Victims

The six learners were released on strict conditions designed to protect the complainants and witnesses. They were ordered to avoid any form of contact with the victims.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila explained the restrictions, “They must not directly or indirectly contact the witnesses as well as the complainants. They must not get close to the witnesses or complainants. If they see the complainants, they must walk away.”

In addition to contact restrictions, the accused are prohibited from entering Milnerton High while the case is ongoing. The Western Cape Education Department has arranged for the learners to sit their school exams at an alternative location.

Eight learners from the school have lodged criminal complaints against the accused, ensuring the case will continue through the legal system.
