Midrand Couple’s Child Sexual Exploitation Case Moves Forward As Investigations Conclude

The investigations into a Midrand couple facing grave charges of child sexual exploitation have been completed, but the indictment can only proceed once the accused bail issues are resolved.

On Wednesday, the Randburg Magistrates Court heard the matter involving Darryn Wilken and Megan Moodley, who are accused of money laundering and the production and distribution of material involving children.

Moodley, whose initial bail bid was denied earlier this year, has since lodged an appeal. Prosecutor Elize Le Roux requested that the case be postponed to allow the appeal to be addressed.

“In the meantime, as soon as the indictment becomes available, we will be serving the defence with a copy thereof in order to make their arrangements. Both accused are in custody. If that may remain the same, I’m not sure my colleagues will address,” Le Roux said.

Women and Men Against Child Abuse Calls for Stronger Action

The non-profit organisation Women and Men Against Child Abuse is urging authorities to intensify efforts against what it describes as a growing trend of child sexual exploitation.

According to Miranda Jordan-Friedman, the organisation’s founder, the scale of abuse uncovered in this case is staggering.

“I think, something I wanted to share with you today was basically that we are here with a case that has approximately 19 million images of child sexual abuse that is basically 19 million crime scenes, children who are raped, and sexually abused,” Jordan-Friedman said.

She emphasised that each image represents a child whose life has been permanently scarred by exploitation.
