Miss SA Mia Le Roux On Battling Vertigo And Withdrawing From Miss Universe

Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, recently opened up about her struggles with vertigo, a condition worsened by her hearing impairment. This health battle led her to withdraw from the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico just days before the big event.

Le Roux, the first hearing-impaired Miss SA, shared that her vertigo became unmanageable during the preliminary competition, causing her to lose balance and fall multiple times. “On the night of the prelims, I was all set to showcase my national costume, but my body just said no. My vertigo was too intense,” she explained.

While waiting backstage, Mia found herself repeatedly falling and unable to stand without support. After discussing with the production team, she decided it wasn’t safe for her to go on stage. “I had to come to terms with the fact that this wasn’t the path meant for me,” she said.

Le Roux explained that her hearing impairment significantly increases her risk of vertigo, a severe dizziness that affects balance. “Balance is all in your ears. With my condition, vertigo can get really bad. Even after seeking medical help in Mexico, my condition wasn’t improving,” she shared.
