Meta Tests WhatsApp Plus Subscription With Premium Customisation Features

Meta is piloting a subscription-based version of its messaging platform, introducing a new tier called WhatsApp Plus that focuses largely on aesthetic enhancements and personalisation.

The experimental feature was first identified by WABetaInfo, which reported that the company has begun rolling out the paid option to a limited group of users. The subscription is designed to offer additional tools without altering the app’s core functionality.

According to details published on the Help Center, the upgrade centres on cosmetic improvements, giving subscribers more control over how the app looks and feels.

WhatsApp Plus Features Focus On Customisation And User Experience

Subscribers to WhatsApp Plus will gain access to exclusive stickers featuring special effects, alongside expanded options to customise themes and app icons.

The premium tier also introduces enhanced chat management tools. Users will be able to pin up to 20 chats, assign unique ringtones to specific contacts and tailor chat lists with personalised alerts and visual themes.

WABetaInfo reports that Meta is continuing to test and refine additional features for the subscription, although no final list has been confirmed.

Pricing And Availability Of WhatsApp Plus Subscription

While official pricing has not yet been announced, early indications suggest a relatively low-cost model. WABetaInfo noted that subscription fees currently range from 229 Pakistani Rupees (under $1) to €2.49 (around $3), depending on the region.

Meta has not confirmed a global rollout timeline, and the pricing structure may change as testing continues. There are also indications that a one-month trial period could be offered to users interested in trying the service.

Despite the introduction of WhatsApp Plus, Meta has not placed any existing core features behind a paywall. Messaging, voice calls and end-to-end encryption will remain free for all users.

The move follows similar experiments by the company with Instagram Plus, which has been testing features such as extended-duration Stories and the ability to send “super hearts”.

Meta has yet to provide further details on how these subscription services may evolve or whether they will become permanent offerings across its platforms.
