Meta Introduces Powerful AI Editing Tools To Instagram Stories

Instagram users can now take their creativity to new heights as Meta rolls out advanced AI-driven editing tools directly within Instagram Stories.

The update allows users to make instant photo and video changes using simple text prompts—whether it’s removing unwanted objects, transforming backgrounds, or completely restyling an image.

The new feature is located in a “restyle” menu at the top of the Stories composer, where users can select “add,” “remove,” or “change” to modify specific parts of an image.

Much like other AI editing platforms, it can quickly erase background distractions, alter outfits, or even create imaginative scenes—like turning an ordinary photo into a shot of a cat floating in space.

While Meta AI takes a few seconds to process edits, the experience is notably smoother and faster than the company’s earlier “imagine” image generator introduced nearly two years ago.

AI-Powered Creativity with New Restyle Presets

Meta has also added preset effects that can change an image’s entire aesthetic without a prompt. These include distinctive styles such as anime, watercolour, and 8-bit. Some presets are tailored for short videos, though the feature currently appears more focused on photos.

Additionally, Meta is experimenting with AI-based text restyling within Stories. This will let users customise how their text appears—beyond Instagram’s standard fonts—by prompting Meta AI to alter it, for example, “make it look like toy blocks.”

Meta Brings Generative AI to the Forefront of Instagram

Previously, Meta AI’s creative editing tools were only accessible in chats with the AI assistant. Now, by embedding them directly into Stories, Meta is making these tools easier and more engaging for users to experiment with.

To further promote creative sharing, Instagram is introducing an “add yours” sticker. This lets users post AI-edited content alongside the prompt they used, allowing others to build upon and remix the same idea.
