Mel Viljoen Breaks Her Silence As She Offers To Cooperate While Peet Fights For Bail

Former celebrity lawyer Peet Viljoen is expected back in court this week, where he will fight for his release on bail. But before the courtroom drama unfolds, it is his wife, Mel Viljoen, who has taken many by surprise after reportedly reaching out to investigators with an offer to cooperate.

Mel Viljoen Offers To Cooperate With Investigators

Private investigator Mike Bolhuis revealed that Mel recently contacted his company, Specialised Security Services (SSS), to discuss the ongoing investigations involving her and her husband.

According to Bolhuis, Mel admitted she regrets her past conduct and has committed, in writing, to fully cooperate with investigators. He said she also apologised for her own actions and offered an apology on behalf of Peet.

Bolhuis further claimed that Mel told him Peet supports her decision to cooperate, although he has not yet submitted written confirmation of his own.

The investigator described Mel’s decision as a positive first step towards resolving several outstanding matters. He said his team now plans to engage with the relevant authorities to determine how her cooperation can assist with the investigations.

Peet Viljoen Faces Hundreds Of Fraud Charges

As Mel signals a willingness to work with investigators, Peet is preparing to launch a formal bail application.

The former celebrity lawyer is facing around 400 charges, including fraud, corruption, theft, forgery and uttering. The charges relate to an alleged R27 million property fraud scheme.

The couple are also facing financial pressure after a United States court ordered them to pay Tammy Taylor USA approximately R71 million in damages over trademark infringement and claims involving local franchisees.

Several franchise buyers have alleged they lost millions after being persuaded to invest in Tammy Taylor franchises through a company that allegedly did not have the legal rights to sell them.

Bolhuis has also encouraged anyone who believes they may have been affected to come forward. He said the latest developments should reassure potential witnesses that they can provide statements without fear of intimidation.
