Mel And Peet Viljoen Claim US Police Stole Their Diamonds And Designer Goods During Arrest

They left South Africa claiming racial persecution, landed in America living what looked like their best life — and now Mel and Peet Viljoen are sitting in separate US detention centres, accusing police of walking off with their diamonds.
Darlings, this story has more layers than a Louis Vuitton trunk, and we are absolutely here for every single one of them.
The Real Housewives of Pretoria couple, who relocated to the United States last year citing racial persecution back home, are currently awaiting a ruling from an immigration judge after being picked up by ICE — just days after their arrest on shoplifting charges in March. Deportation back to South Africa is widely expected, and Mzansi is watching very closely.
Mel And Peet Viljoen Say Hundreds Of Thousands Of Rands Worth Of Luxury Items Went Missing After Their Arrest
Speaking to Rapport from their respective detention centres, the Viljoens have made some rather eyebrow-raising claims about what happened to their personal belongings following their arrest on 10 March.
According to the couple, the missing items include a Louis Vuitton sling bag and matching sunglasses, a Burberry umbrella, a Montblanc pen, a wallet holding $2 000 in cash — and wait for it — R180 000 worth of diamonds. Yes, diamonds. Allegedly in a wallet. During a shoplifting arrest. The irony is not lost on us.

Peet, speaking from his ICE detention facility in Florida, was quoted as saying he was not entirely sure whether he had been arrested or robbed. It is worth noting, however, that Boca Raton police have flatly denied the allegations.
Bodycam footage of the arrest went viral on social media, showing Peet being handcuffed near his Miami apartment beside his 2016 Range Rover, while a female detective informed the disbarred attorney that he had been under investigation for retail theft dating back to the previous August.
Mel, filmed in her pyjamas, was also led away in handcuffs in a separate clip that had the internet absolutely buzzing.
The Couple Whose Love Language Has Always Been Diamonds
If there is one thing the Viljoens have never been shy about, it is their affection for all things sparkly.
Mel, the force behind the controversial Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa franchise, has publicly boasted about patenting what she describes as the world’s first diamond-encrusted manicure — sets she reportedly sold for R100 000 a pop.

Peet, meanwhile, once clapped back at Real Housewives co-star Nonku Williams over abuse allegations with a statement that was equal parts charming and theatrical, suggesting the only suffering Mel endures at his hand is the sheer weight of the diamonds he gifts her.
So yes — diamonds in a wallet during a shoplifting bust is, at the very least, a very on-brand detail for this particular couple. Whether those diamonds ever existed in that wallet, however, is now a matter for the authorities to untangle. South Africa will be waiting at the arrivals gate either wa
