Mdantsane Taxi Boss Fatally Shot, Police Launch Manhunt For Suspect

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has called on the public to help locate a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a 47-year-old man, believed to be a taxi boss, in Mdantsane.

The incident took place on Saturday, 14 September 2025, at NU9 in Mdantsane. According to reports, the victim was alerted by an occupant of his house about a man allegedly stealing copper inside the property.

Mdantsane shooting: Confrontation Turns Deadly

When the victim confronted the suspect, the man reportedly denied the allegations. The victim then attempted to escort him to the police station. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s firearm from his waist and fired at him, hitting him in the upper body.

A chase followed, with the victim striking the suspect with his vehicle. Despite falling, the suspect managed to get up and escape on foot through a pathway.

Moments later, another occupant arrived to find the victim slumped over the steering wheel, asking for help. Efforts were made to transport him to hospital, but by the time a vehicle arrived, he was found lying on the ground outside his car and had already succumbed to his injuries.

Police have opened a murder case and launched an investigation. SAPS has urged community members to come forward with any information that could assist in tracking down the suspect.
