Mchunu Says He’s Ready To Testify Before Madlanga Commission Amid Disturbing Allegations

ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member, and suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has declared his readiness to testify before the Madlanga Commission sitting in Pretoria.

Mchunu, who has been placed on special leave from his role as Police Minister, faces allegations of collusion with criminal syndicates.

The claims surfaced after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused Mchunu of political interference, including involvement in the disbanding of the political killings task team.

‘I’m Grateful For The Opportunity To Respond’

Speaking to the media at Kwambonambi, where he visited the homestead of the late Nathi Mthethwa, Mchunu said he welcomed the chance to tell his side of the story.

“I’m not going to make any comment but like any other person, when there are allegations against you, you need to get the opportunity and I’m grateful that an opportunity is coming for me to have my say. I’m ready for my own opportunity to address the commission,” said Mchunu.

His statement comes amid growing public and political attention on the Madlanga Commission’s inquiry into alleged corruption and interference within law enforcement structures.

Mchunu Pays Tribute To The Late Nathi Mthethwa

During his visit, Mchunu also paid tribute to the late former cabinet minister Nathi Mthethwa, describing him as a leader deeply committed to the ANC and its values.

“Nathi Mthethwa has created quite a void in our political space and within the organisation. Nathi has made an effort to understand politics and he made a contribution with an understanding that he was given an opportunity to understand in a form of political education.

“And he played his role and did his best also as a member of the NEC and a cabinet minister. I don’t think we would want to say he owed South Africa, but he ran his course.”

Mchunu’s remarks were put out as both respect for Mthethwa’s political legacy and the gravity of the moment as he prepares to testify before the commission.
