Mbalula Says Zuma Single-handedly Defeated ANC As A Party

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed its intention to move forward with disciplinary proceedings against former president Jacob Zuma.
This decision is despite Zuma’s threats to take legal action against the party should it convene an in-person meeting to determine his fate.
Zuma faces charges of misconduct for publicly declaring his intention to vote for the rival MK Party (MKP) in the May elections. Additionally, he is accused of urging his supporters to oust the ANC and appearing on the MKP’s list of parliamentary candidates.

If the ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) rules against him, Zuma would become the first former ANC president to be expelled. Previously, Zuma’s ally, Ace Magashule, was the first secretary-general to receive a similar fate.
According to ANC acting national spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi, the disciplinary proceedings against Zuma will continue as scheduled. Godlimpi emphasized the confidentiality of the NDC’s interactions and mentioned that a verdict would only be announced after the committee has considered all representations.
“As far as we are aware, the NDC hearing continues as scheduled and no indication of changes has been communicated to head office,” Godlimpi stated.
The ANC’s secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, has openly criticized Zuma for significantly damaging the party’s prospects in the recent elections. Mbalula noted that the ANC lost its majority in KwaZulu-Natal due to the influence of Zuma and the MKP.
He further mentioned that Zuma’s actions have led to a substantial loss of votes, weakening the party’s standing in the region.
In a recent interview with TimesLIVE, Mbalula expressed that Zuma became a major factor in the ANC’s electoral challenges and asserted that the party is now dealing with the aftermath of these events.
As the ANC proceeds with its disciplinary actions against Jacob Zuma, the outcome remains uncertain. However, the events underscore significant internal conflicts within the party. Zuma’s new political affiliations and his ongoing influence pose considerable challenges for the ANC’s future stability and unity.
