Police acted swiftly following the incident. “A 15-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, and additional arrests followed on Wednesday, bringing the total number of suspects to six,” said Ndubane.
Of the six, four are minors and have been referred to a probation officer for assessment. The remaining two suspects, aged 18 and 19, are expected to appear at the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack, which has raised serious concerns about youth violence in the area.
Police Call for Urgent Action Against Youth Violence
Acting provincial police commissioner Major-General Zeph Mkhwanazi expressed his concern over the growing trend of violence among young people.

“Learners should be focused on their studies, not violence. We urge parents, schools and communities to work together to address the root causes of youth violence,” said Mkhwanazi.
As the province mourns the loss of a promising young student, calls for better intervention programs and community support are growing louder. Mcedisi’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of the urgent need to protect South Africa’s youth.
