Massive Manhunt Underway For Missing Bloemfontein Teen Kamogelo Baukudi

Authorities have ramped up efforts to find 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, who went missing over a week ago in Bloemfontein under alarming circumstances.

According to police reports, Kamogelo Baukudi was allegedly kidnapped by two men driving a bakkie, impersonating police officers.

Bloemfontein Teen Kidnapped by Suspects Posing as Police Officers

The incident has sparked widespread concern and triggered a high-level investigation.

Baukudi was last seen over a week ago when he was reportedly taken by individuals claiming to be members of the South African Police Service. One of the alleged kidnappers has since been identified as a serving police officer.

Police Officer Arrested, Faces Kidnapping and Extortion Charges

A 42-year-old police sergeant has been arrested in connection with the case and appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court last Monday. Initially charged with kidnapping, the officer now also faces a charge of extortion.

Police ministry spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on 24 June.

Multi-Disciplinary Search Team Deploys ‘Maximum Resources’

In response to the kidnapping, a specialized team has been deployed to locate the missing teen.

“Following the reporting of the incident, a multi-disciplinary team was established comprising, amongst others, detectives, members from crime intelligence and visible policing, a hostage negotiator, with the assistance of the private security industry,” said Mogotsi.

He added, “The team has followed up on various leads, and has spoken to family members and friends and has also engaged with their sources in an attempt to find the missing teen.”

Authorities urge anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward. The search remains ongoing as the nation watches with hope for Kamogelo Baukudi’s safe return.
