Mass Funeral Planned For Seven Victims Of KZN Kidnapping And Murder Tragedy

A mass funeral will be held on Sunday for seven family members who were killed on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, in a case that has gripped the province.

The service is set to take place at the Stanger High School sportsground, where mourners are expected to gather from 9am until 12 noon. Following the ceremony, attendees will proceed to the Stanger Crematorium.

The victims have been identified as Alan Monswamy, 52, his wife Sandy, 57, their children Kraidon, 26, and Shamaria, 20, along with relatives Gonosagren Padayachee, 51, Mooniamma Padayachee, 78, and Mariama Happanah, 83.

Funeral Details And Community Gathering In Stanger

Authorities confirmed that the funeral service will begin at 9am and conclude at midday at the Stanger High School sportsground. The procession will then move to the Stanger Crematorium for the final rites.

Large crowds are expected, as community members, friends and extended family prepare to bid farewell to the victims in a joint memorial.

Kidnapping And Murder Investigation Timeline

The seven victims were allegedly kidnapped from their home in Newtown, Newark, on Tuesday night. Investigations indicate they were taken to Melmoth, where they were later killed.

Following an intensive investigation involving multiple law enforcement units, three suspects aged 21, 26 and 28 were arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement, the office of the Provincial Police Commissioner said preliminary reports indicated that a domestic helper employed by the victims arrived at their home on Wednesday morning and discovered the house had been broken into, while seven people and a vehicle were missing.

Police investigations further revealed that one of the suspects had previously worked for the family. The suspects later led police to Melmoth on Wednesday, where the bodies of the seven victims were discovered.

Residents have expressed grief and disbelief following the killings, as preparations continue for what is expected to be a sombre and well-attended farewell.
