Leader of the ActionSA, Herman Mashaba has expressed his satisfaction to open coalition talks with the Democratic Alliance (DA), SurgeZirc SA reports.

Mashaba however said coalition talks between the Democratic Alliance and the ActionSA will only be successful if the party terms and conditions are met.

Recall that Mashaba was a former member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in which he ran for the Mayoral seat of Johannesburg and won between 2016 and 2019. He however left the party after concerns were raised between him and the party’s hierarchy.

The ActionSA leader insisted that issues that led to his exit in 2019 must be addressed before a possible coalition can manifest between both parties.

“Because for us, poor people are part of our agenda, and in no way will we be compromising on that. We are not going to support anyone who is not going to have poor people as part of their agenda,” Mashaba said.

SurgeZirc SA understands that a preliminary meeting has been held by both parties, although the outcome of the meeting is unknown.

It was also gathered that the ActionSA has held talks with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) but said it had its reservations.

While Action SA has not indicated when it will make its decision, political parties have 14 days from the declaration of results to form coalitions.
