Manhunt Launched After Motorist Shot Dead On N1 Near Makhado
Police in Makhado have launched a manhunt after a 38-year-old man was shot and killed along the N1 South road near the Ben Lavin turn-off on Saturday, 16 August 2025, around 19:00.
According to reports, the victim was travelling with three passengers in a white Toyota Corolla from Gauteng to Musina when their vehicle broke down. While waiting for assistance, a white Toyota Fortuner stopped, and two men approached the group pretending to offer help.

“The suspects asked for the driver of the Toyota Corolla. Upon being pointed out, one of the suspects immediately produced a firearm and shot at the identified driver several times,” police said.
The three passengers managed to flee in different directions for safety, while the suspects escaped in their Fortuner.
Victim Declared Dead at the Scene On N1 Near Makhado
Emergency services were called to the scene, but paramedics confirmed that the driver had succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending further investigation.
Police have since opened a case of murder, though the motive behind the attack remains unknown. Authorities believe ongoing investigations will help uncover more details about the circumstances of the killing.
Police Appeal for Information From the Public
Law enforcement officials are calling on the public to assist in the investigation.
“Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Detective Sergeant Musubi Rudzani on 082 565 9070 / 082 210 7639, Crime Stop on 08600 10 111, or use the MySAPSApp,” a SAPS spokesperson confirmed.
Police investigations are still underway as the search for the suspects continues.
