Manhunt Launched After Eight Killed In Mass Shooting At Umlazi Informal Settlement

KwaZulu-Natal police have launched an urgent manhunt after a brutal mass shooting left eight people dead in Umlazi’s Zama informal settlement on Friday night. The tragic incident occurred around 9 p.m. in U Section, where authorities discovered a chilling scene—bodies lying in pools of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshuinda confirmed the victims were six men and two women, aged between 22 and 40.

“It is reported that the victims were inside the dwelling when an unknown number of suspects entered and opened fire, killing them at the scene,” said Netshuinda.

Law enforcement officials are still working to determine a motive and have called on the public to assist in identifying the suspects.

Scene of Horror Shocks Paramedics and Community

Emergency services rushed to the location after reports of multiple murders, only to find a horrific aftermath. Durban-based private ambulance provider ALS Paramedics responded alongside SAPS and other security teams.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson described the chilling environment: “Together with EMRS, ALS Paramedics were shown where the lifeless bodies lay outside what is believed to be a tavern. Six men and two women were declared deceased on the scene due to the multiple gunshot wounds they had sustained.”

The entire area was quickly cordoned off as investigators began combing through evidence in hopes of tracking down those responsible.

Police Appeal for Help in Tracking Down Suspects

Police are urging community members to come forward with any information that might help bring the perpetrators to justice. Authorities stress that even small details could be crucial to the investigation.
